Re: TRANNY CASE CRACKED!!!! weld the crack? or jb weld???
well.. i went ahead and did the first coat.. i used a spoon to apply it on then a Q tip and tooth picks to get it into all the little cracks..
the cotton on the qtip broke off so i let it stay in the jb weld.. figured it would act like fiberglass.. too late now to get it out ah well..
next coat is gonna be even bigger.. + the aluminum like chris said
i dont think this ---- is going anywhere.. lol

You Big daddy scruff:
The M2B4 tranny that has miraculously survived in my pile of mess thus far had a hole the size of a car key in the bellhousing from a bolt going IN TO the tranny from the outside. I cleaned the ---- out of it with brake clean, ground the edges, hit it with acetone and welded a piece of aluminum into the hole... then jb welded over the top of that JUST TO BE SURE it wouldnt leak.... I havent had any issues with it yet. As long as the crack isnt in an area that carries funky loads (IE bearing boss or the like) thats going to be compromised you ll be fine.
mine was right behind the pressure plate on the thin thin part of the case so I got KIND of lucky....
The alloy the case is made out of is shitty to start with so its a ****** to weld (its really pourus and low quality).... it can totally be done, but someones gonna have to know how to tig/heliarc fairly well
JB weld will be fine if its not in a structuraly dependant area

fkn A
went out there this morning and there were drops of oil forming arround the outside of the jb weld.. i was pissed because the tranny drained pretty ------- good.. idk where the ---- the oil came from.. i said ---- it.. hosed it with brake cleaner.. sanded the ---- outta the jb weld to rough it up..
mixed up a big *** batch of jb weld and poured it into some aluminum foil then smashed it into the area arround the crack/bolt
plan is to peel off any loose foil when its tried out sand it down.. then give it one last coat.. then sand it down and spray paint it.. lol yeah.. this ****** better not leak..

Re: TRANNY CASE CRACKED!!!! weld the crack? or jb weld???
if you JB welded it.. since you're selling the car, would you tell a potential buyer that you JB welded the trans case? You better tell them or you'll be considered a SCAMMER by our fellow hmt community...
