Well the leak isnt that large nor does the crack sound like anything serious this is where jb weld was made for. Just clean the outside really well and sand down where the crack is and around.
Use real jb weld not jb quik. if you wanted to get real fancy after the first layer of jb weld dries layer on a couple sheets of alumium foil to add to the thickness and mold it to the transmission
Then more jb weld and let it cure. I have fixed muflers with that technique and the pressure never blew it out. The foil is uber ganagster and proably free in the kitchen.

sounds like jb weld it is.. but just gotta add that welding the crack for me would be just as easy as using jb weld..
jb weld is like 8 bucks sanding paper is like 2 bucks...
or toss the muffler shop 20 bucks to weld the crack..
either way is easy for me.. but if ya think they would yiled the same results then idk.. ---- it

Welding it would suck. It will have to have the ends of the crack drilled, v-notch the crack and then get the oil off both sides and inside the crack itself. Otherwise the weld will be a nasty mess and will either leak or come back through pretty quickly. Dirty aluminum is the devil.

Re: TRANNY CASE CRACKED!!!! weld the crack? or jb weld???
well.. ive come to the conclusion of trying jb weld/aluminum foil first.. if that doesnt work out i can break off the jb weld with a small chisel and have a shot at welding it.. if that fails then im removing the tranny and gonna have a go at welding from inside and out.. and if that fails ill have a go at finding myself a new tranny case...
yay for buktastic luck

come to think of it.. i dont think the exhaust shop has anything to weld aluminum...
will it still be ok
hes a pretty good welder.. he fabs up ladder bars all the time and works good at routing/welding exhausts.. so idk..
---- I HATE IT WHEN I CANT MAKE UP MY MIND...
will a regular welder work fine
will the welds break from vibration?
will jb weld break from vibration
