No machine work to be done? I thought I once read that you had to have a little bit of something machined off of the Si parts to make it fit just right. I am not doubting the tranny god, just thought I read that somewhere and wanted to know if it was true or not.
88-2000 all use the same 5th gear setup.
Wanna get into swapping 3-4 gearsets, some grinding is needed, but there are ways around it.
Little known fact, 88-91 and 92-95 all use the same PL3 (88-91) 5th gear shifter fork.

I've finally finished it, but now I'm scared to death to actually drive it. The gears went on with no problem. It was a pain getting everything in the right place (shift mech.), etc... I'm a little confused with the syncro hub. There was a 'ring' inside a 'hub' I guess you could say. I put everything back like it was, but I pushed that 'ring' all the way around that 'yellow collar' (part of the hub I guess). I'm in no hurry because I have to wait for my clutch to ship.
I counted the teeth on both tranny's:
ZC:
5th Gear Main : 33
5th Gear Counter : 29
Final : 18
Differential : 70
Si:
5th Gear Main : 35
5th Gear Counter : 27
Final : 16
Differential : 68
By counting the teeth we were able to figure the exact RPM drop by comparing the Si 5th gear into the ZC final.
