Default Timing marks

anyone knows any tips to spotin' the timing marks on crank? I know my way around honda's but for some odd reason I can't seem to find the marks on my 96 accord ex. yes I'm have a timing light, the reason for the ? is my idle has been low, and I did the dizzy trick, and the idle screw, but the idle really hasn't moved so I just wonna see where I'm at with my timing period thanx

on my civics their are three red marks.one white one.you want the red ones.if the paint is gone you will have to look or feel for the indentions.also try resetting your ecu if its an idle issue.

I put a piece of sandpaper on my crank while the engine idled and let it rub off the dirt on the ring. that left the timing marks more obvious.

you could also just crank it by hand with a wrench and run your fingernail over the pulley till you caught them and them repaint them.
