Default Temp gauge......

i have a 90 hatch with a 98 ls motor with a b16 tranny....runs nice, doesnt over heat. this moring i installed an oil pressure gauge. while installing the gauge, i had to remove the two clips that plug into a sendor. i believe the sendor has something to do with coolant. the sendor is located next to the oil pressure sending unit, and right next to the oil filter. if i were to...lets say not plug these clips in all the way, would this cause my temp gauge on my cluster to read wrong, and bounce up and down?

oh and i know for a fact that its not over-heating...

Well if you only had intermitent (sp?) connectivity, then yes it would bounce up and then fall all the way to the stop. The coolant temp sensor is just a metal piece whos resistance varies with temp. So if it loosens the ECU sees that as infinite resistance to ground.
