Swapping gears for mpg (question)

I plan on running a B16 trans on my daily, but because of the 4.4 final drive, it's not too good on the highway. I know it's possible to swap gears out of a ls trans, so you can have a long fifth gear. Can anyone tell me what all is needed to make this work? Both of my trans are small shaft, 1 gen's. Thanks guys.

need a 5th gear SET, thats 5th gear of both shafts 90-91 LS tranny.

BTW, Honda doesn't have any left, don't think I do either.

I have a spare LS trans sitting around, so I was gonna take from that one. That's good to know. Thanks Mista :y

Yeah, I was worrying about that. When I was running my all-motor setup, in my Rex, I was going through the traps over 8 grand in fourth. I don't plan to drag this car as much as my last though, so I'll give up a little time in the quarter, for better driveability.

so it has to be 90-91? What's the best way to identify these trans out of the car? Local jy supposedly has a pile of trannies with cracked cases a buddy can get cheap. Figure i'll take a clutch disk for reference on the input shaft but what else do I need to look for?

The input shaft is the dead giveaway. I don't believe there is anything else that's different. Don't qoute me on that. :1

I won't, that's only to tell if it's 90-91 or 92+. I'm asking how to tell what gears would be in it. If I want to put an ls 5th in my b16 and if they both need to be 90-91 then obviously they'll both have the small shaft.
