Speedometer not working, need info.
I just picked up a very clean 91 Civic DX 4 door for $1400. The only thing is the speedo is not working, no big deal right, a new cable or a junkyard head and it will be good as new, right? Wrong. The gear in the trans is not turning, and when I stick my finger in there I can spin it around on it's shaft. Has any one ever run into this before and is there a way to fix it with out pulling the trans out and apart?
I am very pissed about this, I know its no big deal but I thought I had gotten the deal of a lifetime on this car, it looks and drives like a new car. Now I have to work on it. Life sucks like that sometimes.

Custom, I don't know if it will help, but I have one of those speed sensor deals out of my friends 97 civic ex tranny. If you want it, I'll gladly trade you one of those coolers. ha ha
(Let me know if you want it, I got your back)

my coworker just replaced his speedo gear thing on his transmission on a mazda 626. its a little tiny plastic gear looking ---- that cost him like $20. i know he didn't take apart his tranny, he doesn't know THAT much about cars. although... he did say that he went through complete donkey ---- trying to change that. i think he said it took him all day...lol
. if it took him all day, it should take you a couple hours tops - since you already have an automotive backround.

I know what your talking about, but this is not the gear on the cable, it's the one INSIDE the trans that turns the gear on the cable. Anyone ever seen this problem before? I need to fix this so I can sell the car, other than this one thing the car is perfect.

This is the car I need to get rid of before I can pay you for your Integra, you should be trying harder to help me (just kidding)
Screw it, I will just have to pull the trans out.
