the cheapest way you can get an "almost sequential" is using a cable shifted trans w/ a electro-magnetic shifter and dog gears. you still need the clutch for take off but after that its gravy

The term sequential comes from how the tranny is shifted only. A standard H pattern lets choose any gear at any time. A sequential shifter lets you only select the next highest or lowest gear.

Sequential systems can be built into the transmission (which is usually the best since it will engineered for the faster shifting that sequential offers and more robust) or it can be a shifter mechanism external to the trans that converts from the standard H. These just use a barrel with grooves that is clicked around to selected the gears.

This company Ikeya makes sequential shifters to change from the H pattern.

That is an awesome shifter a friend has one on his NSX and it is sweet. The only thing that sucks is they don't make them for the civic.

Still looks like a few ppl in this thread don't know what a Sequential Gearbox is/does, Think of the way a motorcycle shifts, click up, the transmission shifts up a gear, click down, transmission shifts down a gear.....You'll see it alot on WRC cars.....or track cars with alot of power. The point of it is basically just to cut down shift times, and lose less rpm between throws.

And it sound to me like it's totally impracticle for a street driven car. If you have a trans that's in good shape and practice alot, you can shift pretty fast. New poly linkage bushings and a bearing'd short shifter will help too. Honestly man, just stick with the stock.

the closest thingto sequential in a street car is DSG in the new VW/AUDI cars
they shift faster than ferrari's semi-auto POS

you are only out of gear for 8miiliseconds during shifting compared to ferrari's 150milliseconds
