Default Rev limit

Hey guy's, not quite sure where to post a question like this since it's not quite turbo related. I did an ecu swap a while back. OBD2-OBD1. The OBD1 ecu I installed was chipped and the rev limit on it was supposed to be set at 8500. Since installing the chip my tach has been all messed up past 6000 rpm, but today I pilled out onto the highway and no one was around so I floored it and hit the rev limit, not on purpose, but I did. The rev limit seems to be at the factory setting still (6800 I beleive).
Why after being chipped to increase redline to 8500 is it still topping out at 6800? Is there something in the ignition controling an over rev situation like that? It's not a big problem, I was just curious as to why it's still so low.
Oh yeah, after bouncing off the rev limit like that, i was quickly followed by a cop!!! lol. then I decided to behave myself.

what motor is it? depending on the motor the head components might not be able to reach that high...but then again...my little HF motor that i had in my crx only had a 5k redline stock and i put a pm6 ecu on it and revved it up to 7100rpms...but i blew out almost all the vavle springs...hehehehe

lol, well damn that sucks. My engine is a B18B. LS engine so I guess that would be the reason my rev limit is still at 6800. I'd probably blow my springs too. Ah well thanks alot for the suggestions.

hmmm. I'm not sure either. maybe the chip is messed up. Ever since I installed it, my tach has been going crazy after 6000rpm. so that doesn't sound right either.

Well when an ecu is chipped improperly you will get a check engine light and not be able to rev past 3500. Did you chip the ecu or did you send it off. Sounds like you still have a stock program

An '89 Accord LX carbed has no rev limit and can go about 85 mph in second gear at 8400 rpm. Over and over again.

lol. It's a (-75 ecu out of a 95 Integra Ls I beleive. I didn't chip it, and I didn't send it out. Someone sold it to me on ebay and told me it was already chipped. I took the ecu appart to see, and it has definately been chipped. All the soldering looks nice, so i don't see why the ecu would be junk. I don't have any check engine lights, just a fluctuating tach after 6000 rpm.
I dunno, I'm not too worried about it. I'll be swapping to the Uberchip soon for the turbo project.

maybe the kid that you bought it from had the same problem... that's probably how you ended with it. That's half the problem with buying from ebay, ya never know what/if your getting till it gets there.
