Default Removing the Tranny from Block

When i remove the tranny from the block. Do I let the engine sit on the ground or do i support it with something?
Im a bit confuse because C Speed Racing didnt mention anything about supporting the engine but to just lower it. Let the motor sit sideways in the engine bay?

Quoted from CSpeedRacing
"Once the jack is in place, remove the engine mount and slowly let the motor drop down by lowering the jack until the motor sits sideways in the engine bay. Then with the aid of a friend or two, have someone crawl under the tranny while another person separates the transmission from the block and carefully lower the transmission to the ground."

well i just realeased the back mount and the tranny mount after axles were freed. i used a flat jack cuz it can support the oilpan evenly on the bottom without smashing it.dont just drop the engine on the ground cuz ur gonna smash ur oil pan...<---repeat.also it helps to use a rag or somethin to help cause less damage...then plop the tranny off on a skateboard or somethin...ur choice. make sure to use some jack stands for crying out loud because once the engine is shifted in the bay so will the wieght of the car. just my advice.oh yea dont crawl under the tranny..since its round it does tend to roll. get a pry bar at the top and get that sucker off without n e one under it.

You just need to tip it down a little. Use a jack WITH A PIECE OF WOOD ON IT under your oil pan so you don't dent it. And make sure that you remove the 2 bolts from the driver's side lower mount. Take care that your alt. pulley and lower mount don't get pinched on the frame. You just need to tip the tranny down 4 or 5 inches.

I usually find it easier to remove all the tranny bolts except one (threaded slightly). Tip the engine and tranny down. Remove the final bolt and grab the tranny from the top and just wiggle it out. It'll separate from the engine about 1 to 2 inches before it'll want to drop. I have some blankets I lay on when I work on my car, so just grab it through the bay and just set it down on them. I doubt if you dropped it anything would break... but don't quote me on that.
