Yeah and maybe it gets rebuilt every 2,000 miles since it has to rev to 12,000 RPM to make power. Screw that, spend a few bucks on internals and make the same power on boost for 100,000 miles.

Um, this is actually a terrible way of doing things. What happens is the turbo sees vaccum on the compressor side which causes oil problems with the seals. In FSAE you need to run the throttle body before the compressor. Without making modifications to the system to limit the amount of vaccum on the compressors seals teams can have engines injest quarts of oil in a very short period. Generally the best solution is limit oil pressure, use proper feed/return lines, and design a carbon seal.
