id stick with genuine honda bearings but thats MO.

 

So what was it?

 

ok i plastigauged everything. rod bearings on 2, 3, and 4 the clearance was .0015" -.0017" (within tolerance)

when i did #1 it was .0010 which is too tight. i have a list of the honda bearing colors but i am not sure which to go with, i have no micrometer so im not sure on the calculations. i read somehwhere that acl bearings are the same size as the green honda bearings , which is the middle of the sizes. should i move up 2 sizes? i was thinking the pink color bearings.

how do i tell which color it is supposed to use by the numbers on the rods? where are these markings on the rods?


all the main bearings where within tolerance, but it was a wide tolerance range being a '93 model block

 

I'm pretty sure you can put diff colors together just divide the difference by 2.

There are marks on the block itself on the flange area where the block bolts to the transmission, thats where you will find the numbers for the color codes, make sure you keep them in order. Also there should be another set of numbers and letters on the crankshaft itself, right on each one of the counterweights.

I figured out what color bearings I would need compared to the repair manual, then when I went into the honda dealership, the guy behind the counter took out another book with a similar color code chart in it, except all the color's were all f-ed up, so I gave him the letters/numbers and we just went with the color's in the dealerships book. every single one spec'd out perfect, I would just suggest writing down the numbers (maybe its letters its been awhile) on the block, and the number's/letters on the crank, and take that to the honda dealership and use the book there to get the right bearings for you're particular engine. if all but 1 measure out just get the bearings for the 1 journal you need.

i only say.. GET A civic 92-95 Helms manual.

 

I have that manual and the chart for the bearing color code is all fucked up in it, according to the dealerships chart anyway. Its still a great manual to have especially when you're doing a motor.

 

what? should be good anybody compares Honda service manual with Helms manual specifications..

 

Yeah its messed up but I know this for a fact, I have first hand experience on the situation, dont go by the color codes in the manual, just take the numbers/letters into the dealership or like jago said download the factory service manual.
