Default Overheating and No Power!

Right, first of all i have just been to my mates house and left the car running for 10 mins outside his house, wen i got back to the car the tempreture gauge was nearly in the red! so i turned the engine off to allow the fan to keep cooling the engine (fan working) for 5 mins to cool it down, when the engine was cooled to the normal position i turned the ignition off and talked to him for 10 mins or so, but when i went back to the car to start it , NOTHING! no ignition lights, no headlights working or anything, so i went to the engine bay and wiggled the battery terminal which is loose, the ignition and all power was back on! STRANGE! so obvisosly the battery terminal is broken, and i need a new one, also i took the car for a drive and the tempreture gauge stayed at the normal operating tempreture, even when stood after i wiggled the battery terminal! HELP!!

But what i am wanting to know is, would the loose battery connection cause this overheating problem? if not, what could it be?

Thanks in advance Matt B

well there are a few basic simple things u can do to check the system.

1. Check coolant level, low coolant can raise temps.

2. Start your car. Keep an eye on temp guage and see if the cooling fan comes on.

3. Change thermostat. Cheap and fairly easy.

When you wiggled the bat connection did the actual battery post move or just the wire's loop. Just tighten her down.

coolant level is ok, the car has not overheated since i wiggled the battery terminal! could the loose battery connection cause the actual gauge to ---- up?

When i wiggled the battery terminal it was the clamp bit that grips to the terminal that was loose not the actual battery terminal

so i guess i'm gonna get a new clamp tommorow and see where it goes from there!

Thanks for the advice anyways.

Yes.... it can.... My old battery was fucked (no fluid) and one day it just ate ----... while i was driving the sensors were reading all weird and ----... Speedometer was working then it would drop to zero, Coolant temp would rise and fall as i accelerated, it was weird....
