oil light on but oil level ok?????
I have a 93 plymonth voyager. I just recently got the water pump and timing belt changed. soon there after it started smelling like burnt oil and a little smoke came from the engine bay, but none out of the tail pipe. I took it to another mechanic and had him check it out. He said i was leaking oil and it was burning when it hit the exhaust manifolsd and engine. Well it worked ok for 2 days and then that oil light cameon. I look under the car when i can finally stop, and there is oil leaking . I crawl under the car and see it sort of seeping from the tranny on a little seem and all around the front of the engine. Today im parking and it makes a little clackle noise and goes away, then it dies i start it back up and park. I then turn it off get out and check the oil , its ok. I look under the car and no later than 1min being parked there is a couple drops of oil on the ground. I have no clue what the hell is going on. It has 149000 miles on it but starts up on the dime and runs good as hell, no knocking nothjing like a new car. help me out. thanks
Hmm.. just cause it's running right doesn't mean it should not leak oil. You most likely have the rear seal bad on the block and oil is coming out the bottom of the bell housing (inspection plate). Another possibility could be the pan gasket is bad over time and needs to be replaced.
This is an older car and things like that aren't that bad. How much oil is it leaking? If you only have to throw in a quart a week then I wouldn't complain. It might be cheaper to just throw more oil into it rather then replacing the gasket.
My dad's volvo that has 330k miles on it leaks about a quart or two of oil per week. He puts a good 300-500 miles a week on the car, so I just keep adding oil. Yes I know that I *should* fix the leak but there is a problem. My sister's former boyfriend (5 years ago) decided he had to drop the oil pan for some fucked up reason. He couldn't get the bolts off (probably wasn't even using metric tools) so instead of not touching it, he decides to take a dremel and cut slices thru the enter of the bolts so he could use a flat head screwdriver to remove the bolts. Cause you know when you can't get a bolt off with a socket then mocking up a flat head screw will definately work. ------- guppy. One of these days I'll get around to using a screw extractor set to fix that ----.. might even pull the motor

if it was the head gasket wouldnt it burn cooliant also? i think im going to drop the pan this week and use some high temp gasket maker and redue the gasket and, later get an oil pump. if that aint goinig to fix it ---- i really dont know how to replace the other stuff. how do i do a compression leak down test? oh i just did an oil change an hr ago and put some of that slick 50 type stuff hopefully it helps a little. the oil seemed really low when i cahnged it. let you guys know how the 50 mile drive home goes. do you guys think it would be cool to run a 30 shot of nitrous on this bad boyu when its working properly?
i already dumped a $1000 into it trying to get it in perfect order, and its actually a really comfortable daily driver. If i can spend about $500 more to get it perfect its better than me searching for another beeter. ---- i got it for free.
hahaha
the engine is dying by itself why help kill it with a 30 shot
u could only be leaking oil with a headgasket
happened to be untill it got worse and then it started doing the water thing also

i just thought about that. When i took it to another mechanic and had him check it out he said it wasnt the headgasket. he said it was the valve cover gaskets and some other little gaskets here and there. he replaced them and i saw no oil for about a day. im guessing the reason i saw no oil was because he cleaned it to work. i have no clue. how do i check the head gasket?
buy a 20-30 dollar compression tester from an autoparts store
then u must make sure to disable ur fuel injectors or pump or wtv just make sure fuel doesnt get to the engine
u can usually just pull the ecu fuse and ull be fine
pull ur plugs and screw in the tester in the spark plug hole
go inside the car and crank the car with the trottle wide open a few times then go back and check the guage on the compression tester. do this for all the cylinders and post ur results here
remember to disable ur fuel system somehow before u start cranking
either pull the fuse controlling the ecu or just pull the ecu itself
