Default obd2 or obd1 h22 swap (questions about obd1 swap in an obd2 car)

well, i'm about to order my h22 swap and i'm just not sure about a few things, i'll try to explain this as best as i can, and if you know what i'm talking about, then you'll understand what i'm saying. first of all, i'm going ot order the obd1 jdm h22 swap, mostly because i want the lsd tranny. now this is going in a 00 coupe (obd2b), and they're starting emmissions (obd2 scanning) in my county on the first of the year. my main thing is that i will be running an obd1 ecu and harness, but come emissions time, i want to be able to plug up an obd2 ecu so i can pass the scanning. ok, from my understanding, the usdm obd2 h22's run an external coil dizzy, which i can adapt my car to accept, but will it be compatable with the obd1 swap (for example, the crank position sensor on obd2 b series is on the oil pump instead of in the dizzy). so basically my main question is, can i take the obd1 swap and wire up an obd2 dizzy, so that at emissions time, all i have to do is throw my cat on, swap in the obd2 ecu, and the obd2 lude injectors? or will it be more complicated than that?

What I did on Leia's.. I had to make a custom harness, because obviously the OBD1 Harness isnt going to work in the OBD2 engine bay. So I basically modified the OBD2 harness, extending wires, adding wires from the obd1 harness to it so it plugs right into everything. Then used a OBD2-1 Jumper with a chipped P28 and it was golden.

It was pretty easy to do, even without wiring diargrams. Most wire colors match up. As far as the OBD2 dataport working after the swap? I dont think it will work, I have never tried but in order for a scanner to communicate with the ECU it needs to have a OBD2 computer.

Oh and good luck with Axles, haha.. It will always go ok in a straight line, but if its lowered even a little bit and you go around a corner it will vibrate soo ------- bad. I tried several different axle combos in leias and never found a decent axle to cure it.

Your better going off B-series =)

do ALL jdm obd1 h22's come with the LSD? how can you be sure of that?

we cured our axle problem. raise the car up :P runs great in a straight line n doesnt vibrate around turns anymore. i think we ran gsr driver side and a mix of gsr/89 integ axle on the passanger side.

yeah, i'll have no problem wiring it up obd1, but i was hoping to use the obd2 dizzy, so that come emissions time, i would still be able to plug the obd2 ecu up and run it, but the only thing is, it'll be an obd1 swap, so i wasn't sure about crank postions sensor or any other differences between obd1 and obd2 h22's (you know how if you swap an obd1 block in to an obd2 car, you have to put the obd2 oil pump on for the crank sensor), i just wasn't sure if h's are like this too. yeah, as far as axles, my car's not low at all, pretty much stock ride height, i'm trying the 92-96 lude intermediate shaft with the 90-93 teg axles first, if that doesn't work out, i'm just gonna order custom one's, i'm not gonna be swapping out 2 sets of axles a week trying to find the right combo.

If a OBD2 distributor and OBD2 crank sesnsor (external) can run on a OBD1 setup (p28 ecu) why couldnt a OBD1 distributor with a internal CPS run a OBD2 computer? If it works one way, it should work the other. I'm not even certain if H-series obd2 has the CPS external on the oil pump or not.

As far as the axles, the LSD trans requires a different pass side axle than with the stock open diff trans, thats why its a bit hard to cure the problem. I'm not talking just parking lot turns and ----, I'm saying 50-75mph on a turn into a dip, it shook so bad I thought it was coming apart everytime. People say they are only 75lbs heavier, which I think is complete bs. You can totally tell there is a huge boat anchor in the front of it.

I just think b-series is the way to go, I really dont like any of the h-series trannys, cable operated trans feels like ***.

you'd be surprised how much raising the car cures the problem. we had slight n i mean slight shake to none at any speed. parking lot speeds were flawless :1 but even at high speeds, raising the car was dramatically better. i forgot about the problem over time lol. i still dont even know if its lsd or not, it gets no traction but i can't tell if its just the shitty tires lol
