Call around first. Most of the people there don't even know they have it.
Usually called an Ignition Module tester.
It has adapters for all makes and models as well as a chart showing which to use and how to test it.

update: checked voltages at the coil and they are fine the problem is the ICM i need a new one.

one more thing do you guys know what other cars icms are compatible with my gsr dist.? can i use an ls or b16 icm and do thye have to be obd1 since mine is

you can use a sohc one if you want .. i've mixed and match icms from d's to b's and the other way around

word just did this the other day used a d16a6 one in a b16a dist

i've acually had bad luck testing a coil with a resistance test. Best bet is to keep a spark plug wire on it, with a spark tester and fire it manually with 12 volt leads from the battery just to make sure.
