Call around first. Most of the people there don't even know they have it.
Usually called an Ignition Module tester.
It has adapters for all makes and models as well as a chart showing which to use and how to test it.

i've mixed and match icms from d's to b's and the other way around

i've acually had bad luck testing a coil with a resistance test. Best bet is to keep a spark plug wire on it, with a spark tester and fire it manually with 12 volt leads from the battery just to make sure.
simple logical thinkin can sometimes be hard...
