Re: new timing belt makes noise
ive had this problem with my mini me, the belt streched out after a while and quited down. IF you didnt change the head or anything I would check uner the lower timing belt cover to make sure the belt isnt rubbing on anything down there. I had the tentioner spring come unhooked before and my timing belt almost wore through it.

Re: new timing belt makes noise
Turn the crank in both directions and see if there is still a bit of slack in it. It could just be loose on one side and super tight on the other. If one side is real tight and the other side has a bit of slack it will slap around and make shitty noises.
