Well i built my first motor put it in this weekend i started it yesterday for like 2 min b/c i didnt have all my coolent and ---- ready 3 cranks and it started right up. So today after work i do the same thing after geting all my ---- strait. i have it idling great then it just dies now it wont idle unless throttal is pushed with a small piece of cardbord on top of the idle ajustment screw it idles right at 1grand. So the usuall breaking ---- happens the motor shakes like crazy my b16 doesnt have a bleeder valve for coolent so i just let it bubble out the radiator. then i put the heat on everything is good but still no fan.I realize my motor is detonating or misfireing but its not overheating so im like what the ---- i fully advance the timing by dizzy and it goes away. i see smoke from under my car and there's a pallet under it so i figure its to hot I LOOK UNDER AND MY ------- CAT IS CHERRY RED. My exhaust was smelling like ---- basicly gas black smoke and all and thats about it now down to the ?'s

MY build is a b16a2 bored 20 over wiesco piston eagle rods 9-0 cpr block guard Arp head studs moroso oil pan stock head i was trying to run na for my break in. the motor only sat for 1 week after being built the car sat for about 8-10 months

ok the ?'s

1. Why is my cat turning red and my motor detonating ( I think the low comp doesnt yeld enough to burn all the fuel in my clylenders and its just burning in my cat.
2. Why wont it idle.
4. Does the larger bore and lower cp make my car see lower vacume so in turn it dumps more gas

Any usefull info will be greatly apreiciated

first check ur timing to see why it's running rough an misfiring....honestly u could have overlooked even the simplist of things which is why it's running rough....the cat turning red.....well thats....uh...u got me there

i know for a fact my timing may be off mechanicly due to having the head surfaced and block decked but i have the a 30 thous head gasket

what fuel setup? is it still stock?

timing is a pretty good bet, if it's running really retarded then it's basically shooting fire and unburnt fuel, into the cat. Causing a shitty idle and a red cat.

The fuel set up is oem but the car smells like its burning extremly rich at idle black smoke. how Do i go about changing this i bought the thicker head gasket to try to avoid timing problems. i did my timing according to the haynes manual

timming is ricky, the best ting to do is just redo it and cross your fingers. remember 1 tooth off and thats it. I hae done a ---- tone of belts and last night I did a headgasket on a turbo crx and she wouldnt start after. I pulled the belt off and did it again and she fireed up [erfect

thanx ill prob redo timing tommarrow i was talking to a teacher at uti he was saying the with the arp your suppose to strech them but i thought they were pre streched from factory he thinks since i didnt my head may not be torque correctly should i take the cam's out and check if there not at the right spec?

did u torque tem to spec?
some torwues have a spec and then a ange of turn aswell
