sound's simple. too simple. haha i dont know if id feel comfortable shaving weight from a rod or piston. would you just grind down the material? you know what thats just too complicated for me ill just take it to the machine shop when i need it done

It is. The rods are somewhat more complex than pistons - ideally you're supposed to make sure the small end and big end weigh identically, too. You hang one of the ends on a bar and the other end on the scale, tweak as needed.

mine was $500 for:
grind crank, bore .25 over, thermal clean block & oil pan, balance eagly rods/srp pistons/flywheel, bearing set.

they didn't even see the head, so yeah $480 is pretty good.

but grinding a crank and custom bearings are not exactly cheap. Why was the crank cut? you do know most machine shops dont even cut forged cranks with nitrade coating?

previous owner ran it out of oil and it spun a bearing.

I trust this shop, they don't do much OEM work, almost entirely aftermarket/performance. usually circle track stuff, but they do know how to grind cranks. .10 under on all journals, because when they spun the bearing it warped it slightly.

Colin @ RPMNYC's old car, who he sold to a local kid who finished blowing it up for him, made 450 whp @ 14 psi and 520 whp @ 21 psi. Came with a undercut crankshaft and King Alecular bi-metal bearings.

Crank was + is still mint. All the damage was to rings/bores/ringlands.
