Ls/vtec what to look for?

Re:Ls/vtec what to look for?
Yeah I'm going to ask him what code it is throwing. All a vtec ecu would do would control the vtec anyway, so I guess as long as he has something to control the vtec engagement which he has the msd external vtec controller then it should be fine. I am going to ask what code it is throwing. I figure it is prolly the knock sensor though. Thanks again.

Are you serious I don't think you've done your research.
A vtec ecu doesn't only control vtec, but it adds more fuel when vtec kicks in and I think the timing is also different...and wit the LS ecu you would only rev to 6800?? a Vtec ecu goes up to 8200 rpms.
I would swap the ecu if i were you....and ask him what kind of oil pump he's using, cause if he doesn't have a vtec oil pump that LS/VTEC will die very soon.

Oh okay, thanks ^^^
I did read up, and I was getting mixed answers thanks for the info. If I run an ls ecu for now and redline at 6800 will it be okay for daily driving im sure, but would suck during a race?
And the oil pump would also need to be changed?
Thank you semnos, this is the kind of info I needed.
Maybe that's why the car pulled pretty good down low, but when it hit vtec, it wasn't really that big of a pull like other b series vtec motors that i have ridden with. Because he is running the ls ecu.
Would that be my only bottleneck, the ecu, and the oil pump? Say if everything else is in its good condition. Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.
Dropping a vtec ecu, like a p72 out of a gsr or a b16 ecu allow me to redline at 8200, but would that be alright on the setup, I'm guessing so because of the b16 head, and its valvetrain components. He also says it is wired as OBD0 the block is a 95 b18b with 99 si pr3 head and i believe he said he is running the 93 ls ecu. Thanks once again. I'v been trying to make sure that this is running right. Again I appreciate it.

Re:Ls/vtec what to look for?
If it's wired OBD0 you could get a OBD0 B16 ECU and chip it...you can only do NA tunes with it and up the fuel a bit more for the displacement, or convert to OBD1 and get a GSR ECU. VTEC Oil pump push more oil...You'll be revving higher if you get a GSR ecu so you'll need a good oilpump
