Ls/vtec what to look for?
Hey, been doing some research on ls/vtec. Gonna go look at a DA Integra, its a 90 with an ls/vtec swap in it.
Block is a b18b from a 95, and head is off a 99 si. Would the Integra then become an OBD1?
What are some things I should ask about the swap.
1. What ecu and wire harness is he running?
2. What else should I look and ask for, and what would be some of the right questions, and answers to those questions?
I believe he is running the LS ecu, but is controlling vtec from an MSD external vtec controler. Would this be alright?
Also CEL is on, he says it's because of the LS/vtec
Still doing research on this setup, was never into this setup, but im in the market for a car, and this particular one looks nice. I'm not trying to get dicked around because I want the engine to run right.
Thank you in advance.

Re:Ls/vtec what to look for?
if CEL is on you got a problem... He shouldnt even be using a LS ECU in the first place. My guess is the engine isnt tune and only put together.
One thing to look for in a LS/VTEC is the VTEC solenoid. If you dont see it, its not vtec. Also check the valve cover of all things. If it doesnt say vtec be skeptical.

Yeah I'll ask him again tomorrow what ecu he is running and with what wire harness. The car did hit vtec but the CEL was on. He is a mechanic, but if he really is, I figure at least the CEL wouldn't of been on, and it would be running right.

Yeah I did drive it, it did pull down low, i guess because of the LS torque. But just wondering cuz the CEL was on and I believe he told me he was running the LS ecu but vtec was controlled by an MSD external vtec controller.

Yeah I did read up on this setup, there are many different factors. I just want the motor to work reliably, so I was wondering if it would work like this, and if the motor would give me problems.

throwing a check engine light "because its an LS/VTEC" makes me laugh. there should be no sensors that are different to make a check engine light appear.
It sounds to me like this guy hellafied rigged up his ---- and now wants to sell it because its a turd. Unless you can get it for the price of 3 cubans on a raft (around $50), then pass on it.
lol
