Loose Shifter, what to replace....
I have searched but have not find the right information.
Here's a diagram

The whole shifter moves around even when in gear, I know this happens with civics, but also I know that replacing a boot or something will fix it and make it fell like new.
I think is part 7 on that diagram, right
6 and 10 are dust seals.
thanks

Ok, I'll try that.
It's an 88 dx, so that ----'s been there for a while now, I have the shift linkage from a 95 ex, I might try to change over the parts, those bucshings should be better.
Thanks for the reply, I just needed a confirmation of what I thought of doing.
Oh and the movement is like when it is in gear, I can still move the shifter to the sides like if it was in neutral, it works but just doesn't feel right.
I know that my 97 went in gear and it was pretty solid.

are you using the spring clip that holds the round shaft to the round pole on the tranny? if that spring clip is missing it will make the whole shifter assembly "slap" from one side to the other without any hesitation. and no a little bolt that doesnt fit really tightly in the hole will NOT work. IE # 22
yeah i was going say the same thing too. I know this from personal experience. because one of friend didnt have the spring pin, same thing onyx described, And we used a bolt and nut to hold it together and it would feel like it would be in neutral in any gear. It the exact descprition you've mentioned. But once the original part was in, it went away.
check to see if 19 is even in your shift linkage. similar problem for me when I didn't have that. it's a metal sheath in the rubber that you put the bolt through. without it, you will get the side to side slop you described.
hope that helps.
hope that helps.
Thanks Guys
I will check all of your suggestions. I know when we did the swap, I wasn't really doing it, I was just helpiong, was my first, so I'm not sure what he did. I'll check everything and replace any parts as needed.
