see here's the whole deal on bolt on parts.(the way I see it anyways) The engine is a giant air pump. Its designed to flow a certian amount of air. Then say you put on some headers and an exhaust. the engine still pumps the same amount of air, it's just easier to do so and makes it a little more effeciant. then say you put on some ITB's. Now what the itb's do it get rid of the pumping losses BEFORE the engine. but the cams and cylinder head still "try" to flow the same but the ITB's make it easier for air to get to the cylinder head.

what ive been told on how to build an all moter engine is this " in this order"

#1 Port the cylinder head and have measurements of how much it flows and at what lifts.
#2 Find cams that lift the valves the same lift as where your head flows the most air.
#3 calculate total amount of flow for all four cylinders at that lift. Then the rpm needed to obtain that flow.
#4 Buy valve springs, rods and pistions that can turn that kind of rpm and pistions C/R to match the cams.
#5 Then headers and ITB's or normal intake manifolds (ported mybe, work fine) are last....
#6 drive the ---- out of it =)

anyway thats my 0.02 cents on this topic, hope it helps, dave

a properly matched intake manifold and throttle body will ultimately make more power then ITBS because of the acoustical supercharging that occurs with a IM.

This is a very good article by a famous engine builder. half way down he shows how to make a intake manifold out flow any ITB setup
