installing head question

okay. I don't wanna search and I shouldn't have had to in the first place... but here goes.

me for one, whenever I remove a head I put it to TDC. I just do and most everyone I know also does this.

Now a friend of mine loaned me his garage space to work on my car. I had prior obligiations so I gave them the green light to proceed on wrenching it. They pulled off the head. When I got there to check things out, the didn't TDC the motor.

So my question is, what would be the best way to go about re-installing the head? I really don't want to degree the motor as I don't have the proper equipment and probably won't remember how to do it.

So what's your input.

p.s. I hate this POS B16.

so the head is off the motor? Just turn the motor to tdc on #1 (you can just look at the piston or use the crank pulley marks), and put the head back on with the cams as close to tdc as you can get when you put them in. Im not sure if thats what youre asking so let me know if that helped.

Just like they said, it's a piece of cake. Put your engine at TDC and turn the cam gear so it's at TDC, install belt.

There's an arrow on the timing belt crank pulley that lines up with a nub on the oil pump housing to let you know it's TDC. The #1 piston also happens to be at TDC in the same location. :P

Hop on icelord.net and download the Helms most applicable to your engine! The factory literature is most excellent, comes complete with pictures and will aid you in all things.

cool thanks guys. I totally forgot about that I could turn the cams :1

everytime that I have been involved in yanking off the head without it at TDC, we would degree the motor. My buddy is really ---- about not half assing stuff and it has rubbed off on me. I'm amost tempted to hit up my buudy for his degreeing kit, but I don't wanna yank out the motor :P

Center distributor, adjust cams to set ignition timing. You are degreed. :)

This blows my mind.

You have almost 9000 posts and can't put the head back on your car.

Get off the internet and go work on your car.
