http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...13SR80_D04.gif This diagram sucks, but see #13? under the TB? That whole the large dingus is the FIV. Fast Idle Valve. It has a thermo-wax plug that when cold.. opens and allows more air into the intake tract to warm the car up quicker/help cold idle. As coolant temp rises the wax expands and closes it. What happens is over time the wax plug gets messed up and it sticks open or closed.. usually open unfortunatly and it plays hell with the idle... especially warm idle since the ECU is then in closed loop operation. Some FIV's are on the bottom/side of the TB.. some are on the intake manifold itself. It just depends on the year/make of the Honda. As you can see above I keep 2-3 of these on hand at all times... kinda like igniters and OBD0 distribs :P I'm thinking about permenatly closing mine... what the bad about that? |
Re: Idle air control valve
FIV was my problem, I'm glad I got it fixed!

Re: Idle air control valve
This thread is dead.
But is it like the idle is loping or the car is threatening to stall? Start a new "help me" thread. |
Re: Idle air control valve
+1 i had that same butterfly problem when i had my old skunk2 TB (you know back when skunk2 had the problem that the butter flys would not close on their TB's some stupid factory defect >:() that made my car idle like complete ----

Offhand comments shouldn't go in stickied sections. Besides everyone knows that skank2 are a bunch of china-hiring-skam-artists-ass-fuckers... ::) |
Re: Idle air control valve
i know this thread is very old but did anyone check the map sensor because it sounded like your guy's problem. have you guys tried disconnecting the map sensor for awhile to see if it goes back to normal idle?

Read how to make your first post. MAP sensor isn't going to lope your idle, it's going to make the car run like ass at part throttle, or barely idle at all. |
