well I am not sure what it does but I would suggest that if you can find the hottest thermostat you can that might be enough to just bring it up a little and be perfect. BTW what is you set up. Kinda sounds like you are running lean mabey.

Something to do with engine wear. I seen a graph once(it might have been a bullshit graph)where it showed metal wear at different temperatures. The wear was way higher in the colder tempertaures below operating temperature.

to make the fan stay on with the ignition switch just take the green wire out of the temp sensor on the t-stat housing and ground it to the block. that way you dont have to worry about shorting out the fan relay. what i did was put an alligator clip on the wire so i could just unhook it if i didnt want the fan on.

that's how i did it. just striped both wires without cutting them, just stripping the insulation. then i twisted them together and insulated them. worked like a charm.
