Default highest compression ratio on pump gas?

Hi guy's Im helping a buddy with his car and just had a question, its an obdII b18b that snapped a timing belt. Im trying to talk him into an NA ls/vtec, thing is we have a b16 head sitting around that is pretty fucked and needs a mill, so this brings us back to the question at hand what CR would be the safest you would go with 91 gas Would 12.5 be too high for a DD even with the right tune? I know this is HMT so flame suit on for going NA, he has his reasons

Yeah, but since he's running a V-Tech cylinder head that means he has AT BEST ITR primaries (what most aftermarket cams use) and more likely is going to stick auto B16 cams in there and think he's getting more than 145 whp out of it.

i got 130whp out of my stock b16a with fairly worn out rings. you better kill the tuner if he cant get you more then 145whp with ~12.5:1 compression.
