HELP!!!! Reverse in Tranny doesn't work!!!!
I just finished putting in a B18B1 with 93GSR YS1 tranny in my 1st gen 87 CRX Si.
I finished everything this morning and tried going through the gears while still on the jack stands and every gear works except reverse.
Now, listen to this. I filled the tranny with about 4 quarts full of SAE10W30 like the factory recommends. Every gear engages except reverse. When I try to put it in reverse, the shaft doesn't go all the way in, as if it were hitting on something. Hasport told me I would have to lenghthen my stock shift linkage but when everything fit. My factory 87 shiftlinkage is a bit shorter which puts all of the gears back some. Meaning neutral is where 4th used to be. It works out ok because I am tall and I don't have to reach for the stick anymore. I don't have a short shifter or anything. My linkage is just a sorter.
What do you think is the problem? Do you think if I lengthen the linkage I will get reverse? Please help.
Thanks.

yes....change is and it will work...otherwise your ---- isnt gonna be right...and neutral shouldnt be in the 4th gear spot so that tells you something is wrong right there....fix it and you will like it better.

The tranny is probably fine, it's just that the shifter doesn't have enough room to engage in every gear.
I had the same problem with second gear. Then I took off the shifter dist cover on the center console and noticed that there was not enough room for the shifter to go into every gear. I solved it by cutting out little pieces from where it was hitting.
Very easy fix.
Are you having a hard time getting it into 2nd also?

It goes into every gear fine. The only problem gear is reverse. The tranny was also leaking fluid from the bottom seam on the transmission. I cleaned it off and put some red RTV gasket sealer on it. It also pops out of 4th sometimes; but I think that the linkage might just be too short.
It has been storming for 2 weeks straight so as soon as the rain slacks up some I'm going to try and lengthen the linkage.
