Default Help..Alternator Pivot bolt from hell..

I've been working on swapping my alternator, but the bottom pivot bolt WILL NOT budge. It moves with the alternator and I've been smacking it with the biggest sledge I can fit for the past couple of hours. I've soaked it with PBBlaster about 3 times and heated it up with a propane torch. Nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this ------- thing out? It's the Alternator Through Bolt in this pic

cut it off and get a new screw or try to hold both sides and unscrew it

is the square part rounded out at the other end?
if not, you have to get something to hold it against that bracket. (pushing towards driver's side)
if it gets pushed towards the passengers side, the square thing has nothing to catch.

The nut is off. The alternator moves back and forth with no effort at all and that bolt moves with it. It's like it's fused to the alternator. I can't get it to budge. I tried locking a pair of vise grips on the threaded end and moving the alternator, but the bolt just turns in the vice grip jaws and it took everything I had to get it to clamp. I would cut it, but I don't have anything to cut other than the 1" of mangled thread head. The real pisser is that you have to get this out in order to remove the bracket because the bolt is sunk in to the point where I can't get an open end wrench on it. This is ------- frusterating. Last time (8 years ago) it just came right out.

Cut the whole thing off. Or better yet, remove the bolts feom the motor and take the whole thing out brackets and all.

Those can be a bitch sometimes. I remember a Toyota one I did a long time ago. That mother ****** wouldn't move. It took some skin off my arms and a hammer, but I got that bitch. Put your purse down and rip that ****** apart. :P

The biggest problem is that I have no leverage. I can only hit it with a small 4 lb mini bfh and I have a whole 2" of swing room. I think I'll goto home depot tomorrow and get a long piece of solid steel bar so I can get some real whacks on that ******. I can't think of anything else to do at this point.

I would try to get a set of vise grips on the square end and put a block of wood between the vise grips and block/oil pan and beat the ---- out of the alternator with a dead blow.

Yeah, I tried that too. I can't get the vice grips on the square end. There isn't enough surface area to grab onto and even if I did, I wouldn't have any room to swing anything under there. The car is sitting in my garage jacked up on one side at this point. Maybe I'll jack the whole thing up and put stands under all 4 corners so I can get some room to work.
