i seriously dont think the pattern is of much importance, just that the surface is evenly honed and the cross-hatch is evident...thats just my opinion, though

The crosshatch should be at roughly a 60 degree angle. And make sure it's a fine hone, cause if it's rough, u might start burnin some oil. Also make sure u use some lube with that...Lucas oil stabilizer works awesome for that.
