Engine rebuild question........help
Is it necessary to hone the piston cylinder when installing new piston rings with old pistons?
If so, where can i pick up a "bottle brush" honing tool?
I've try local auto parts store, but they either don't know what it is or don't have it.
TIA.........

I'm no engine building professional, but I can tell you that it is HIGHLY recommended to hone the cylinders to create a new surface for the new rings to seat to. It isn't 100% neccesary, but it is the right thing to do. It's like not changing the oil in your car. Sure, you don't have to do it, but you really should and your motor will be a hell of alot better off if you do.
Ok, it is 100% neccesary if you ask me, but like I said, I'm no engine building expert. :P

hello....hello.....(do i hear an echo?)
yeah pretty much what everyone else has said but i would recomend just taking it to a professional to get the right angles. I tried honing my own block and its super hard to get a consistent criss-cross, IMO its a cheap way to make sure one less thing will go wrong after all the hardwork and money put in. anyone agree??
