that is the wire that is used to recharge the battery so it has a solid connection to recharge the battery, so of course it would be a hot wire.

it wouldnt be hot unless it was connected to the battery or the alt was turning though? Unless there is another wire to the alt that tells the alt how much "charge" the battery has. There would have to another wire running from the battery to the alt? oh wait, electronic load detector maybe?
