D16Z6 RPM Withstand?
My question is simple, can the D16Z6 motor, built with 12:1 to 13.1:1 CR with rods pistons and a built head, withstand 10,000 RPM, i'm trying to make a monster D series all motor setup. gonna try something different.
Yes it can be done. A key to remember though rpm's kill engines faster. It's just how things are so dont expect it to last. If it is a drag car fine. A d series cam that makes power past 8500 rpm is going to have to be on carbs or itb and not streetable. I have built plenty of all motr d set ups so this comes from experince.
well its not like it will be seeing that RPM range all the time, its a daily driver, i just want to have a high compression ratio like 12:1 or 13:1 and have a high RPM range. it is a D series so i dont mind a rebuild every 2 years or so. but youre saying it can be done, so now what do you recomend i start with, I have a D16Z6 block, so tell me what is next on my list, I have the ITB's and am planning to buy everything soon, i'm gonna do the following, rods, pistons, bottom end APR bolts, Cam shaft, and valve springs. i heard the stock valves are still good enough for that kind of an RPM range. also i'll have a chipped ECU.
Well for one to make that kind of power you are going to need a head that isnt a typical street head. Square port. Then atleast 45 mm weber carbs or real itb like TWM. DIY ITB will not flow enough to make power that high. Then you will need a cam that will not streetable at all. Rebuild every 2 years LOL. More like every 25 passes. Like I said it can be done but it will be a drag set up. The cost for the headwork alone would be in the 1500 range. Then block work. Custom cam, valetrain. Real ITB or webers. Unless you have 6000 bucks to build with it's not worth it. All Motor is expensive and when you start running high compression and large cam things become very unstreetable. Only 2 fast all motor sohc cars have been around BISI and the old GUDE crx. There are reasons for it.
well whats a good setup for a D16Z6, i heard if you use ZC pistons that it will crank up the CR a bit, and still be streetable. i just want to have about 200 hp at the wheels whit a NA setup.
160 is streetable set up. Dohc zc pistons are to much for a street motor. You will be at around 12.5 to 1 compression. I would run a6 pistons and a thinner headgasket will get you to a nice mid 10 compression. A good ported head/manifold/throttle body combo. I offer all this work if intrested. Also a good header and an agressive street cam and you will be at the 150's. I know bisi old street d16's were in the 180's but they were after years of testing and truley the power he is making is becasue of carbs no doubt about it. I have a built d16a that made 154 on 11.1 compression and street cam. I just got 45 mm webers and a bisimoto cam which isnt very streetable at all in hope of geting to the 170 range. If you like being the odd ball and hearing all motor sucks and especially sohc than stick with it I have. I'm hoping for mid to low 13's with my new set up
