K the crank bearings are all the same, and there isnt much tolerances involved, there is no rotational mass on the crank where its housed, only the rod bearings need to be plastiguaged, I also got my bearings in and they fit good and snug.
My good friend who built a bunch of engines told me this so i'm just passing it on.

Main crank housing = standard bearings will do.
Rod bearings = you need to use plastiguage, however I heard that some guys built blocks using the specified bearing sizes spun them cuz the tolerances were too right, where as other guys used the green bearings and never had a problem.

you gotta make sure theyre all within spec, and most of the time 99% of the time its the same amount of wear to the journals, there is no rotational mass on the mains, just the rod bearings. I'm just gonna put in the medium greens that I got and it should be fine.

i dunno if u know this but the mains are subject to oscillations

basically all cranks tend to wobble a bit so id do it once and id do it right
plastiguage it u lazy bastard

Example.. My d16z6 probably has different bearings than your d16z6. So when you go to the factory and ask for bearings, they are going to ask you what color you want. Each sides of the journal can use 2 different color of bearings too. So its very important to know what came out of your engine so you know what to put back in. Thats basically why they sell bearings in "halfs".

When going to a place like pepboys or napa and ask for bearings they are going to give you the "green" bearing which is about in the middle of the specs. ACL/Clevite etc etc. Sometimes you can get lucky throwing these in, sometimes you can get real unlucky, thats why I highly recommend plastigauging every bearing cap.

But to answer your question, Will a D16a bearing fit a D16z.. yes

with what you said about the bearing clearances if the ones from pep boys are tighter in one journal than another would it be a good idea to have the journal thats tight to be machined to set clearance?

did i make any sense?

Yes you made sense, but no you dont machine honda cranks. Honda cranks have a nitrade coating on them, and places that machine cranks usually dont touch these. It's not like a SBC 350 where you can grind every journal down and say ya its a .30 bearing.

A long time ago when I had my built ZC, I was so sick and tired of buying god damn ------- bearings from the dealer to get the thing to be perfect. I told the guy at the crank shop to grind the entire nitrade coating off and make the bearings all 1 ------- size.

Another reason why I got rid of it

You obviously know very little anout Honda engines, and you didn't listen to a ------' thing I said, and that's fine. I know i won't be the one with a mysterious knock coming from the bottom end. :P

It would be a wise idea to listen to what they're saying...I tried a rebuild about a year ago with clevite bearings, and was in to much of a hurry to plastigauge the journals. All i wanted was to get it back together to get back and forth to work. Well, worked fine for about 2 weeks, until it started knocking cause their was too much clearance and i had no oil pressure. Usually the bearing "colors" are stamped on the block i beleive, just cross reference the number to the color you need and order the correct one. Otherwise, start saving now for a new motor
