D series head castings question
does anyone know:
do the non Vtec d series motors ( d15b7, d16a6, d16y7 lets say) all use the same head casthing? ive "heard" that the a6 is the best suited head for making power.. but i havent heard that confirmed.... as far as i can tell they all have the same CC combustion chamber...but i cant find info regarding wheather the runners are the same size or dirrerent etc.....used the search function with no results... anyone know? |
Re: D series head castings question
D15B1/2/7 and the A6 all use the same casting. The Y7 is basicly Y8 ports with Z6 combustion chambers. The valve springs and cam are what make the A6 head better.

Re: D series head castings question
gotcha.... so really it wont matter.. i dont intend on using the stock cam.. and i can get oem a6 springs cheap enough

Re: D series head castings question
Depending on how large a cam your running A6 springs are good to stock RPM limit, a little over with the A6 cam. If your really pushing it then run stiffer springs such as Isky, COMP/Zex, or Crane.

eh.. ill look into upgrades.. id LIKE to shoot for making power to around 7500-8K.. i need to talk to a cam grinder to see what #'s im gonna need to be at to make that power.. its lookin like in the upper .3" lift range with high 200's duration

Re: D series head castings question
Definetly ask your cam grinder, I'm sure the'll know exactly what you need. Your probebly going to need something slightly stronger than stock though.

would you feel better if i said i wanted to run a cam that had enough lift and duration to make power to around 8K? or if i said i wanted to make ~135whp.. and that would just so happen at around 8K |
Re: D series head castings question
I seriously hope the 135whp figure is jsut to illistrate a point, not your actual goal.

Re: D series head castings question
cough a6 valve train doesnt need to upgraded for 99 percent of cams for the motor unless you go with a custom hard welded cam with mucho lift
