Default crx motor options......h22, b16, b18???

hey everyone, im looking to buy a 88-91 crx to make a project drag car out of. my question is, what motor would be best. would an h22 fit, and even be worth it. if so, what would i need. if the h22 is outta the question, im leaning towards a b16 or b18(ls). i know the b18 has a little more tourqe but the b16 is cheaper. whats your opinion on this. however i also know that the ls is good for turbo cuz it has less of a c/r. my main goal is to get in the 12's with a gutted crx. i desperatly need help, and any info that would giude me. please include links and write-ups if possible. thanks in advance, i hope you guys can help

All motor or turbo? 12's are pretty easy to hit in a B-series Crx thats gutted with a few mods.. Especially if its in a "race car" type status. B-series would be the best way to go IMO, B18 B16 B20 whatever. If your going to build it up down the road, you may want to go with a B18. a LS/Vtec is a pretty good build, or even a B20. H-series in EF chasis blows ***, you will spend more time getting that thing setup correctly than track time. Axles will be a bitch, hood problems, ground clearence, custom mounts, etc etc.

Well considering your on "homemadeturbo" you know what I would say.. But All-motor isnt that bad, its cheapier to a point, but then you will hit a point where it really cost big bucks to go. Lots of people in my area like semi-built B-series with a shot of Nos. It ends up being pretty quick I guess. I like having the power always there. So, its really up to you.

Jeff

have you ever been in a boosted car? the noises, the acceleration, the way the car pulls...(think its time for me to go for a drive ) but traction sucks cuz there wont be much on the street...

like abaz said.....12 not as hard to hit today then 5 years ago. it really depends on just your taste. i personally love turbo....the sound..the pull...the power....but i love all motor even more. i have a eg hatch and i have a b18c1. i just dynoed a little over 200 whp. but i did spend a little cash on performance parts to get it there from 149whp. my friend has the same car with an h22a. just basic boltons with a hondata s100 and he did a 192whp but he got 149 lbs of torque. i did 121 or so. h22 have way more torque and the power band doesnt need to go up too high too. but you will have to deal with the clearance. got another friend with a b20 with b16 head in a crx too. just basic boltons and and a few other tricks. he dynoed a 189whp with 136 lbs torque. he ran a 13.6 on 14in 195 blackies with a 60 of 2.0. the h22 did a 13.9 w/ 10ft of 2.0. it really just depends on if you want the high rpm scream of vtec, the pssssst of turbo....or the smell of burnt rice from nos. Or....all 3 in 1....but it will definitly be all up to you. ever route has a different build up. NA will be based on high c/r. turbo on low c/r and fuel upgrade. this is what i like....but someone else might like the SOHC better......just look at the gude crx...and of course....bisi's crx with the f22 carbed. just remember....learn all you can....buy all you can...do all you can........cause in the end.....it'll come down to YOUR OWN OPINIONS. no ones going to tell you how to do it.........we just tell you how we do it.....you make your own style. good luck on your path to the 12's!!!!
