Long gears and short powerband work the same as longer (and peaky) powerband and short gears if you aren't dumping everything in a heavy chassis... it's just BBKA's way costs more, because he's a HT-loving stunna.

ZC or B18 I asked myself also. Well this is how this went down. I have a 1st gen crx so it makes things more interesting but all in all it's still a honda. I made a list of what it takes to make both engines in the car run NA. Becasue both cars will cost about the same to do a turbo setup on. Well of course the ZC will win the $$$$ side. But I started looking for a ZC motor in the mid-west well about 700 to my door was the cheapest (my gen car needs a tranny too but don't worry your car is fine) So I got pissed and started looking for some good old fashion d16 not sheap and with a ton of miles. I found two "not running" 91-93 teg at a local auction. 632 was the final price, it was about 110 degrees out and I didn't feel like pushing these up on my trailer, towed by the non-ac 1 ton van. So I paided a tow, final 750 and a pack of smokes. About a half hour after the cars hit my shop, both cars ran just fine, but the 93 had no gears (hole in the case) So for 70 bucks and 10 hours I had two b18a's, one good tranny, two sets of wiring harness, and a bunch of other ----. Then when I was done with the cars, call a friend that scraps cars, he gave me 25 bucks a car, and towed them away.

The moral of the story is be patient, buy smart, boost what ever motor you get a hold of. Once you get something going, don't look back and wish you did something different. Stick to your guns and make it happen.

What about a DOHC ZC? I had one in my CRX and absolutley loved it. I threw a 75 shot on it. It was tons of fun even NA. I raced a CRX with a Y8 swap that was stripped with a chipped ecu. I destroyed him once I hit second. That was before the nitrous. With the nitrous it was awesome. Don't have times though the track wouldn't let me run without a blow down tube. A turbo DOHC ZC would be awesome. I absolutely loved that motor. It's little bit more than the single cam slammers but it's a direct bolt in with minor modifications to the wiring harness. Also it uses b-series equal length half shafts which make for better traction. Making strong axles easy to find.

My LS without the turbo felt faster because of the extra torque, and my LS at least got about 26mpg...the b16 i'm kinda lucky if I get around 18mpg on the highway, and around town maybe 12 :P
You get 12 mpg with your B16? are you sitting at 8K all day? I got 38 mpg yesterday with a stock ecu... B16 FTW, they are far superior to LS motors, the bottom ends are stronger, the top ends are far superior, and LS gears suck so bad it's not even funny so you're going to need a dohc vtec tranny anyway.

For NA engines making over 180-190 whp aka bigger bottom ends than stock. For forced induction, irrelevant.

Only if you expect a ------- four cylinder to haul around a family sedan.

b16, b18 a,b,or c.
whats the max youre gonna make safely on stock internals, 300hp
the rods are pretty much the same b16 a bit shorter.
only advantage i see besides the besides the debate on the shorter gears is the lsd on the b16 and b18c

B18C = 350 whp. Stronger rods and displacement = King Dick of the B-series.
