CRX Motor Debate ZC vs B16

I have a 1990 CRX Si and I am debating on which of these two motors to swap in. I like the zc because it is a direct bolt on and alot cheaper. But I like the vtec and extra power of the b16. The car is going to be a daily driver/weekend street racer. Any input you all have would be awesome, thanks!

A D15b7 would own both of those.

What's this now? I don't know anything about that motor... Is it a direct install or does it require a bunch of custom stuff liek the b16?

he was being sarcastic, a d15b7 is a junk pot sohc motor, if you never want to boost it, spend the money for a b16, if you plan to boost it, save your money and do a zc or better yet an Ls motor (b18a/b) because the Ls and zc motors have lower compression, so they'll be better for boost, plus when the motor blows up, it wont cost as much to replace, and im sure somebody will chime in and say a b16 is just as good for boost as a zc or Ls motor as long as you know what your doing and have a good tune, but bottom line is an Ls motor on boost is going to do better than a b16, and if anybody disagrees, bite me...

Funny, I have a bone stock D15B7 and so far I've had three faggot ass 99-00 Si owners with OMG BOLT ONS on their B16's ask me what I've done to my car to make it so fast - they couldn't pull on me.

Frankly, A6 or Z6 is going to own the ---- out of the high mileage crusty ass ZCs you get these days, and cable trans B16 are just as worthless on top of being *expensive*.

Set a damn power goal and a simple search will tell you how to get it bang-for-the-buck. Just guessing here, any D16 + boost or an LS + boost is going to be your answer.

I wasn't planning on boosting at all on this particular car, at least not for awhile. I'm becoming interested in the "mini-me" swaps, they seem to be a pretty good bang for your buck and easier to do swap/conversion.

I've got 2 friends with ED's.

One has a SOHC ZC aka A6 with boltons and the other has a B16. The ZC stays dead even with the B16 until the top end of about 3rd gear. We could probably throw a few more degrees of timing at it, but the car goes pretty good for a SOHC NA engine.

Oh, and I smoked an Integra tonight. :6

I'm goin with JD on this one. I've had more than a few z6 motors that have been just as fast as my OMG JDMB16 swap. After I nuked my LS/turbo I dropped in the b16 and honestly wasn't impressed with the results...no torque at all, no power really until after the 5k maddd vtecccc range, and for the price of one...---- that. My LS without the turbo felt faster because of the extra torque, and my LS at least got about 26mpg...the b16 i'm kinda lucky if I get around 18mpg on the highway, and around town maybe 12 :P

Okay so what is the actual difference between a D16Z6 and the D16Y8, I am interetsed in tehse 2 because they're VTECs. and I am not sure what is in my car, if it's a d16a6, like it should be, then I will just do a mini-me d16ya swap. If its a d15 I'll swap in one of the two d series vtecs I think...
