No smoke. I'm pretty sure the valves dont need adjusting. The motor sounds fine, no knocks or pings. She pulls hard as hell too for NA. I'm pretty sure its healthy but I'm still going to do the CR test again before going further.
Off topic what price range should I be looking at for a D16 short block. I want to find one to start an actual build i.e forged rods and pistons. I know I will want more power once I taste boost for the first time.

I don't think it is the cause of your shitty compression results, though.

I paid $250 for an almost complete z6 from a local yard, it was missing the dizzy, iacv, and the LMAs. Well, the yard guy gave me the motor with the trans attached, he said it was just going to go in the trash anyways. Gotta love those rednecks.. Of course I'm sure that prices vary location to location, but I think most people sell them for around 3-400 complete w/0 trans.
