CEL code help in EG
hey guys, so I've finally put in my new motor in the ride, tried starting it up, tapped the jumper plug under the glovebox with a wire and made a closed loop. it ended up having the engine light stay on, no flashes and it doesnt turn off. I then thought I messed up with the jumper cable, so i pulled the wire out of it while the engine light was on, and it turned off. Is this a CEL code? would it be a 1, 10 or nothing at all?? I'm not sure what to check after this, but it's almost catching when its turning over. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: CEL code help in EG
if your check engine light dosnt come on, most likely you dont have a cel code.. a solid light with no flashing means your ecu is clear, and there are no stored codes.
what car, whats done to it, what are your symptoms, do you own a rope??? |
Re: CEL code help in EG
here are the things done to it all to specs
exedy stage 1 clutch new headgasket Arp headstuds rest are all new parts ( waterpump, alt, timing belt, etc ) just swapped it in When i crank it, i hear ( I think one cylinder only) backfiring, I must also let you know that there is a gap in my exhaust ( header - cat ) stupid rusted bolts, neways thats what I hear but not on a consistent basis. What should I check if I am no throwing a code? |
Re: CEL code help in EG
make sure you have your plug wires on corectly. is it starting, and backfiring, or is it just backfirin??? if is starting, is it runing ruff, dose it have a steady idle??

Re: CEL code help in EG
Naw man, not starting at all! just about to turn then goes back to cranking, and backfiring. I'm 99% sure i have the wiring of plugs correctly.

Re: CEL code help in EG
Double check and be 100% sure

Dizzy/wires
Check for spark |
Re: CEL code help in EG
ok.. checked it.. lol damn sakes.. it was wrong.. now.. it does sound like its running rough..
heres the firing order I used http://henklin.ridethepig.com/Civic/firing_order/ started up no problem. But its running rough kind of like one cylinder is not firing properly or something. i can't really tell cuz the gap in the exhaust is making it pretty loud but im pretty sure its not that smooth of an idle. What do i check now? would my plug wires be gone?? |
Re: CEL code help in EG
check the gap on the plugs, you said it was a new build, so im asuming you used new plugs, wires, dizzy and all.
Did you rebuild the engine to stock specs, or did you change compression, or anything else. are you useing a stock ecu to run it?? makes sure all the plugs on your wire harness are conected in the right location. i had a few of mine messed up when i first started mine. |
Re: CEL code help in EG
If i put the connectors in the wrong location, would it not throw a code?
i bought spark plugs that don't need to be gapped. the wires i used the ones that came with, so I'm thinking it might be that but they look good to me. Didn't change anything else - everything was to stock specs, I am for the time being, running a P06 ecu but on here people told me it would be " OK " to use it temporarily, but i assumed it would run normal at idle, could that be the problem? I'm still trying to find someone to burn me a p28 map i have a chipped ecu and chip ready to go. |
