Default Can it be done mini-me???

I hear all this talk about the A6 becoming mini-me, but is it possible for a d16y7 off of a 97 civic dx hb to become vtec also if so what kind of parts would i need for this build?? what kind of numbers (HP) would i be looking at after the swap?? after all is done.. is it also possible to be boosting with turbo?? i wanna build this little sucker to be beating DOHC motors... what all needs to be done... i hear i can build up a 300hp SOHC Vtec motor.. how is that done...

as far as i knoe a y7 lower end is the same asa a6. it can be done my friend alex just did it to a kids 97 civic, it runs nice.

youll need a complete top end of a z6 or y8 motor. a rpm switch for vtec and z6 head gasket. id say it would be about the same as a y8 about 127 hp. maybe slightly higher due to increased compression. you can turbo it but with a kinda high compression youll need a zdyne and 450s for fuel management to be safe.

how much boost would i be able to do with just slapping a vtec head on it?? what kind of numbers would that be... one of my boyz has turbo on his 98 civic ex motor... he has like 5 lbs of boost running.. with all stock internals and injectors... and he's doing over 200 hps.. so he claims... is this possible

your friends motor is a ex, not a minime, so he would have a little less to worry about in terms of high compression. like its said above, youll ge to 126 hp, maybe slightly more. 5lbs of boost is decent for stock internals. but over 200lbs... id have to see it on a dyno before i bet on him...

what kind of numbers would i get if i went with the venom 400 module, and shooting nitrous... im not quite sure what kind of shot yet but whatever that would be able to give the most HPs...what would be the best shot?? i might go with the dry kits, maybe Zex or NX...

Well I will tell you this, dont expect more than 220hp on your stock d-series rods, they are small and cant serious handle the abuse that b-series can.

Asking "how much power will I get with such and such" is unknow man.. Each setup is different, so nobody can tell you. If the nitrious kit is rated with a 50 shot, you will probably get 40-55hp (range)

The actually engine, d16y7 with a vtec head (depending on which one) will be from 120-130hp. Plus that also really depends on how its tuned. If you are going to just run a rpm activated switch, it probably wont give you alot. Where as if you were to wire the correct ecu in, you will get better HP numbers.

For as boosting a mini-me, that is pretty risky, since you have a very high compression ratio. I wouldnt do anything but a standalone fuel management system, or a very trick piggy back system that will allow you to modify fuel curves AND spark tables.

I would recommend asking this question, or doing a search on honda-tech I am sure some guys have done it with more experience.

Jeff
