Default d15b7/z6 MINI-ME TURBO finally done....PICS

Well after months of collecting parts, i finally decided to start installing everything, and figured I would make it work. Its done except for i have to finish the exhaust. I have all the parts, but its raining like mad today.

BEFORE (just brought home):

So heres the setup:

d15b7 block with a d16z6 head
z6 intake manifold
HF manifold
Weir Racing adapter plate
DSM 14b Turbo
DSM blue top 450s
CCA 6" intercooler
Stealthmode Oil lines (with the exception of the SS drain line)
Oil Drain Line....parts donated by accordepicenter
crushed 1g dsm BOV
autometer boost gauge
sunpro oil pressure gauge
custom 3" downpipe w/ 2.5" cherry bomb resonator
chipped p06 ecu with vtec conversion kit from XENOCRON,
running a conservative crome tune from a z6 turbo setup...still has to be tuned...but it hauls safely as is.

Things i couldnt have completed this project without....
4 1/2" DeWalt angle grinder on clearence at LOWES for $35
Harbor Frieght flux core welder (borrowed)
CarQuest

I started Wednesday night thinking id be done by thursday afternoon... but for those of you who remember the downpipe i bought....it ended up not even coming close to clearing the clutch slave cylinder. (i bought the downpipe from someone, but he made it for a cable tranny.) I also had problems getting the charge piping to line up on the drivers side. I finally finished it Saturday evening.

The wastegate dump tube re-routed into the downpipe was the reason it wouldnt clear the slave, so i took my angle grinder and cut it off. I had to hammer the downpipe in alittle, then i welded the 90 degree bend back on the wastegate port, so it dumped straight down. I had 2 oxygen sensor holes...but not wanting to buy oxygen senors or screws...i welded washers over them and then filled the holes in. After putting it all back on and realizing that a few of the crappy welds were leaking, and fixing them....it works great.

The charge pipe on the drivers side just didnt want to line up at all. i cut a 90 from the piece we were trying to fit and went to carquest to explore. I ended up with a piece of 1.75" (perfect size) flexible raiator hose. $12. It was a stretch, but it fits perfectly, and doesnt leak.

I was having a hard time making the small gap from the turbo drain to the oil pan using the SS stealthmode line. I couldnt get it to make the bend without crimping. So Jay hooked me up with some heater hose and a SS 90 of pipe....and it worked awesome...and no leaks yet.

So after starting it, and driving it around the block....and only making about 1 psi of boost....i was thinking i did have a leak somewhere. It ended up that when i mounted the wastegate...there was a slight gap between the compressor housing and the wastegate actuator, so when i screwed it down...it was actually holding the flapper open. A few washers and a longer screw solved that.

Now im getting a full 8 PSI. No leaks of boost or oil.

Heres some pics, and once it stops raining ill get more pics of the dump tube, downpipe, and the custom oil line drain. And ill try to get a few videos.

I dont know if its because its crushed or what...but the BOV sounds similar to a SSQV. (several blow offs instead of one big one...hopefully you can hear it in the future movies)

ill get some times at the track this friday... my best time on the mini me untuned with a really crappy ebay mugen chip, with vtec not engaging til 5800, and a full stock exhaust was a 16.113. i cant find the slips right now but i think the 60 fts were around 2.3/2.4.

Its VERY fun to drive. Thanks.

no, its flat black, and has HX rims. but once i get some money again im gonna get it painted a stock color. I havent seen that original pic in a while, and seeing it made me think of how sweet it would be having the turbo setup in a totally stock looking car. flat black attracts too much attention. thanks.

dismantling your downpipe to bleed your slave cylinder is not very attractive but the welding is DEAD SEXXE............GET in MY BELLE.

I really feel better about my welds after seeing this.

we made the base map for this mini-me/Z6 setup of Zach's, trying to go with something that would be conservative but still fun and fast to drive. I'm glad to hear too that you found out why no boost, and that it wasn't a big deal. congrats again.

P.S. don't foreget to unhook your PCV feed into the intake mani if you already haven't

That pic needs to be on the front page... Seriously though, you could of done some practice welds prior to making your down pipe.

it was a harbor frieght flux core welder, and they kept leaking. so i layed them on thick. the big "***** of flux core are the o2 hole filled in, not all weld. yeah, it looks like garbage, but i dont care, it doesnt leak and its fast. im getting a lincoln 135 with gas soon, i can lay down prettier welds with that.

the current chip is a d16z6 with 450s tune by xenocron.

yes the pcv feed is unhooked.

i should be able to sneak an open end wrench to bleed the slave if that ever comes up

thanks.
