However all normal engines advance timing to make power up top. In the same way, to make even more power up top, one would advance their timing. http://www.ecutech.com/tuning/ignition/
If you advance your timing a lot you knock and lose power down low. You can fit in way more advance up top because of engine speed and that is where you make power. Show me where you got your info. Retarding timing too much causes you to lose power in the whole RPM band.
cam timing and ignition timing are two different animals. did you ride the short bus to school?

Dang, yeah, I did ride the short bus to school guess I got a little mixed up in my efforts to prove my point. Well, my last post will help this post. If it is indeed true what I said about advancing spark up top to make power then you would also have to advance the cam. I said this way up top before. If you're putting the spark in earlier, then you have to put the air/fuel in earlier. advance spark=advance cam

Yeah, if you're running a turbo, retard both of them, at least back to stock if running good fuel management but retard it more with the AFC hack.

god dammit you people are stupid. retard the cam to make power up top. this bullshit about advancing the hell out of the ignition to make power is some ricer bullshit story. run the amount of timing you need. i.e. the amount of time calculated to ignite the spark at the correct time.

Haha, that cracked me up...

Now as far as using an adjustable cam gear on a single cam.. Well I never liked it at all. Its just like shifting your power band around, and not really extracting more power. Advancing gives a good hole shot, more power down low. And retarding will give more power on the top end. But when adjusting it one way, it makes the other feel like ----.

I never had a turbo single cam w/ adj cam gear, but I had a pretty well built NA single cam with a large cam, and I always just left the setting at 0.

Btw, you always need to reset ignition timing after you make adjustments with cam timing.
