i'd just pull the head. the timing belt and valve cover is already off, just unbolt the ex mani and the head bolts.

Man, doesn't anybody speak english anymore? So let me get this straight...you broke your timing belt while you were driving? Or your grampa broke it? If the car was running and the belt broke, your valves in the head are fucked.

9 times out of 10 they are. I thought i got lucky once a few years ago when my timing belt snapped. I put a new one on and it seemed like it was ok, idle was a little bit rougher. Ended up rebuilding the motor about 8 months later and turned out i bent 2 exhaust valves and ended up blow-torching holes in the sides of the valves. You might get lucky if you're really broke and it'll still run, just won't run like it did originally.

There is a chance not one thing was damaged in his engine. You just have shitty luck.
