brake caliper sticking

well just picked up a 93 civic Si and found out i bought a bucket of worms

but i expected some of it...

anyway, when i bought it i was told there was air in the brake line, so i figured i'd bleed em when i got home and be good.

went to do it today and theres no pad and the outside of the rotor on the driver side :l so i tried to push the piston in the caliper back and reuse, no such luck, piston had come far enough out to dislocate itself.

so bought a new caliper, put the brakes in, bled them, and thought i was good. not so.

now the brand new caliper is dragging very badly on the rotor.

what could cause this? it's only the driver side, its a new caliper, and i bled the brakes

need some help quick! gotta get to work tomorrow morning

Re: brake caliper sticking

brake line is in good shape and no kinks

old rotors but the passenger side isnt doing it so i dont think that is the problem

btw i had alot of stuff come up and ended up looseing that p28 somewhere, i moved 5 states away and havent seen it yet. sorry about that but at least didnt take any money for it yet.

well i did some reading around and aparently the slide pins need greased anytime you do something like replace the calipers.

did it and still no change

check your pads in the clips. if you cant move them by hand theyre too tight

Re: brake caliper sticking

people that do 'hydroboost' conversions on gm based brake systems (power steering pump is used instead of engine vacuum) and people seem to think if they drill the holes in the banjo bolt they'll get better braking, but it over-flows the diaphram and actually sucks the pedal down. is your master cyl/booster good?

Re: brake caliper sticking

yep that all looks good. no signs of leakage or anything abnormal from the master cyl and the booster is in good shape

Re: brake caliper sticking

pump the pedal a couple times, try to turn rotor by hand, if its tight, crack the bleeder, if a little fluid come out and then its easy to turn the rotor AND ITS ONLY DOING THIS ON ONE SIDE then replace the brake hose. If its both sides then its usally a master or a overadjusted booster rod.
