brake caliper sticking
well just picked up a 93 civic Si and found out i bought a bucket of worms
but i expected some of it... anyway, when i bought it i was told there was air in the brake line, so i figured i'd bleed em when i got home and be good. went to do it today and theres no pad and the outside of the rotor on the driver side :l so i tried to push the piston in the caliper back and reuse, no such luck, piston had come far enough out to dislocate itself. so bought a new caliper, put the brakes in, bled them, and thought i was good. not so. now the brand new caliper is dragging very badly on the rotor. what could cause this? it's only the driver side, its a new caliper, and i bled the brakes need some help quick! gotta get to work tomorrow morning |
Re: brake caliper sticking
Kinkd brake line?
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
new rotorz? what happend with that p28?
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
brake line is in good shape and no kinks
old rotors but the passenger side isnt doing it so i dont think that is the problem btw i had alot of stuff come up and ended up looseing that p28 somewhere, i moved 5 states away and havent seen it yet. sorry about that but at least didnt take any money for it yet. |
Re: brake caliper sticking
well i did some reading around and aparently the slide pins need greased anytime you do something like replace the calipers.
did it and still no change |
Re: brake caliper sticking
check your pads in the clips. if you cant move them by hand theyre too tight
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
nope there perfect
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
people that do 'hydroboost' conversions on gm based brake systems (power steering pump is used instead of engine vacuum) and people seem to think if they drill the holes in the banjo bolt they'll get better braking, but it over-flows the diaphram and actually sucks the pedal down. is your master cyl/booster good?
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
yep that all looks good. no signs of leakage or anything abnormal from the master cyl and the booster is in good shape
|
Re: brake caliper sticking
pump the pedal a couple times, try to turn rotor by hand, if its tight, crack the bleeder, if a little fluid come out and then its easy to turn the rotor AND ITS ONLY DOING THIS ON ONE SIDE then replace the brake hose. If its both sides then its usally a master or a overadjusted booster rod.

Re: brake caliper sticking
i had a softline blow on my old f150, i hoseclamped it back together and my caliper locked up, and the ceramic piston collapsed, leaking all my brake fluid out onto the glowing rotor and nearly roasted the truck.

Re: brake caliper sticking
i've done that several times, and it continues to stick once the brake pedal is released, only on the driver side
but the hose looks like it is in good shape.. just replace the rubber hose connected to the caliper? for now i am useing the E brake to stop untill i figure it out lol, and makeing sure to stay about 10 car lengths behind anyone |

If you take 5 min. to research for common problems that occur in the style of car you are test driving, you can ask key questions and see if the seller is a complete scamming liar to see if you are wasting your breath asking questions. I've walked away from a few boarderline buys becuase that trick showed the seller was an outright liar, if he was just clueless I probably would have bought. This quote comes to mind

But to the point the look of the rubber on the outside of the line has no bearing to the condition of the inside of the line, only can see if it's dryrotted or swollen. If you listen to what highroller told you, you can diagnose it a little further. ie check to see if the 'check valving' complex is telling you is actually happening. |
Re: brake caliper sticking
i listen but i dont belive most of what people say about a used car.
like i said i expected some problems with it and while more expensive then i was hopeing for it doesnt bother me its a strong runner and it'll be fixed by the end of the week, better then the explorer i traded for it also not to be an ass, but i responded to high roller saying i have done exactly that several times, with the same result. thank you everyone else for your help and info |
Re: brake caliper sticking
i didn't think you did cause you said it sticks once the pedal is released, not the bleeder.
I wasn't raggin on your buy, just those types of sellers in general piss me off. |

Re: brake caliper sticking
yeah after the bleeder is cracked the rotor frees up and i can turn it by hand again
i called around and they want $40 for that hose anyone know what others may interchange? maybe 90-93 integra? and no worries stenseltizm. i sometimes take people at there word because even if it is something easy, some people just dont know how. i work with a guy who put brake pads in backwards and cant change windshield wipers lol |
