Apparently alot of ppl with boosted y8's have spun their #4 rod bearing due to the oil pump being too weak. The flow rate on the y8 oil pump is 33.4 lpm @6800rpm, but the flow rate on the d16z6 oil pump is 45 lpm at 6000rpm. I'd just swap my oil pump for a z6 one but the dipstick goes thru the y8 pump and not the z6 one....Anybody run into problems with their boosted y8? I don't want to ---- my ---- up when i can fix it now and not have to worry.

No i havent tried anything yet, I just came across the problem while i was doing some research on other y8 turbo setups. I didnt want to pull anything apart b4 i have a gameplan. I also read about shimming the relief valve... I just want to find a surefire solution.

Surefire solution is don't run y8.

Otherwise, shim the valve and cross your fingers. Local guy has a sleeved y8 w/stock pump that sees 8400 rpm and has for the last 4 years, hasn't popped yet.

Not running the y8 isnt really an option, I mean i could swap my y8 for my gf's z6, but it has 350,000+km on it. I think i'll shim the valve and do some porting while i have the oil pan off...That will at least make me feel a bit safer...If i do end up spinning a bearing, I'll just put my turbo setup on the gf's civic, and build/boost a DOHC ZC.

As far as I understand, I am the only member of this board who has successfully run a boosted Y8 for over 30K miles making over 200hp and not have any oil pump issues. And i yanked the bitch before she had a chance to blow on me :P

Thats what i want to do, fix the problem before she blows, I want to get at least 1 summer out of this engine before i have to rebuild it. Any other known issues with the y8?
