Be sure to check the alternator spool fuse before you replace the alternator. I got stun in the *** a few weeks ago just assuming it was a alternator and it was just a damn fuse. Also, on EG's I can sneak the alternator out from the top under the throttle body, or loosen the master cyl and get it out there. But taking the axle out is also very easy.

 

You can sneak it out past the axle from under.

I did it in BBKA's car on the side of the freeway...remember this day?

 

Yea, I know pulling an axle is not hard, but this $100 car was so rusted, that I knew any bolt I took off the suspension was going to break. It did not have an alternator when I got it, so just wanted it on there and that was the safest way to not have to do more work, lol.

I have the same problem with my CRX. At idle the light is dim or on but when I raise it even a bit it goes out. This is the second alternator but it is used. Are you serious about a fuse? I have never heard of that.

 

The reason the light goes off is because of the Revs going up, the alternator spins faster, creating more juice, Why do you think you headlights dim when you come to a stop at night and have the clutch in?

 

Yes, obviously. I just assume my second alternator is crap and I have to get another one. It really doesn't bother me because the light only comes on at low idle sometimes but leads me to believe the voltage regulator my be junk and may be over charging up high. I would check with a volt meter but I don't drive it or care that much I guess.

Well, it was already out I was trying to put it in and I tried a million different ways to get it in there from underneath and I could not. Now, I did not try removing the alternator bracket...it did not occur o me. Are you saying it is possible without removing the axle or the bracket?

 

I believe I did it without removing either...think I did it on Alec's CRX too.
