Yeah i was looking at Renegade as well. Might go that route, but i was thinking of more of a DIY approach by cutting bell housings...

This isn't something i'm going to attempt atm. Probably will get around to it in late summer next year, just trying to see what i'll be working with. Things don't go so well when i rush in.

There's the 1jz which is rather cheap, the subie motor isn't a bad idea, but the k-series won't be cheap. The Sr20 isn't as reliable as the rest over 400whp, and all other toyota (4cyl) options are rather weak.

The Subie motor would be my fav, since you could conceivably use the newest type of tuning with that FreeWhatever crap they have for Subies/Evos (detailed in some post in the Ecu forum). You can also go up to 2.5L, be compact, and sound pretty cool.

However, sound-wise an LS7 will trump all the rest...

I can't stand Scoobies. Anything with such idle and oil consumption problems is a trash design.

The 914 transmission is brittle, for any real power you'll need to upgrade to a Porsche unit. Not cheap.

What can you slap in place that comes with a decent transmission? Not a lot. But, you can make 200+ whp NA off of the aircooled unit already in the car, and it's much easier on the trans since there's a lot less torque. That's what I would do.

If i were to use the Subaru transmission also, that solves the brittle Porsche tranny problem. Seems like i should be on the lookout for a salvaged wrx on the auctions. That way i can get the brakes and perhaps suspension from it as well.

How do you know the subie motor, tranny, brakes, etc. would work?
Is there any build threads on this being done?

They won't work, it will have to be made to fit. But that's the fun of it
